Sacrificing Mercs

Apparently this is the equivalent to crossing fingers but over in Dubai. Its holding thumbs up in Sweden. All of the above is being done on our behalf to help with the house move.

Things seem to be progressing. We got 5k off the asking price of the cottage after the survey which was nice but had a problem with the completion date on the flat.

Now hopefully the completion date will coincide with the move to the cottage but worst case it means a 2 stage move where our removers take stuff into storage for a few days while we crash at mother-in-laws and stick the cat for an extended holiday at the cattery.

Keep holding those thumbs/fingers/any other appropriate appendage.

A Favour

The home drama continues as after the recent house disaster we started looking again. Found something too, a nice little cottage in a village location.

Then we get a call to say that the bungalow owners are going to sell after all... *Scream* In the meantime the survey on the property we wanted had shown up 10k worth of essential repairs. So... I'm onto the agent to say "Look we have found somewhere else since the original problem as well as these repairs, how flexible are the owners likely to be on a renegotiation?"

Naturally the estate agent doesn't ring me back for days as is their modus operandi. In the meantime we think 'stuff em' and put an offer in on the cottage.

We found out today it has been accepted and I had great pleasure in phoning up the other agents and telling them to Sling yer hook!! The decision was helped along by the first house people saying their house was perfect and they would not consider a discount. Well lets hope the next poor saps who offer on the place don't get a survey done then eh...

More importantly for us, lets hope that the bungalow owners did us a favour and this place all goes through (its end of chain) and we can move in this side of the 3 day English summer.

Oh and hopefully the leasehold info on the flat has landed on the solicitors doorstep. It would help if she would answer her damn phone and I could find out.

Silly Me

Silly me to think that life would do anything other than kick me in the proverbials.

Earlier today I was told by our solicitor that the piece-of-crap management company that owns the lease on the flat a)Didn't receive the solicitors letter requesting info (yeah right.. Oddly enough they have 'mislaid' letters that we have sent before also.. How terrible their postal service must be) and b) That leasehold information takes 8 weeks to get. Our deadline for exchange is a little under 3 weeks.

Then I get a phone call from the estate agent we are buying from to be told that the bungalow that the people we are buying from want is being taken off the market. The people living there are getting back together and will no longer be selling.. Hooray for romance, but this fucks us up right royally as the owners of the house we were buying only put theirs on the market because they wanted said bungalow. Apparently they are going to look but wait.. It has to be a bungalow and be in the same village. Well yeah... right that'll work as there are oodles of bungalows for sale there right now... I obviously just can't see them on Rightmove.co.uk.

Sooo, thats the 300 pounds on the survey down the tube then and our dream home up in smoke. Not to mention the likelihood of us losing our own sale and the 300+ pounds we have spent on that so far.

Its only lunchtime.. What wonderful surprises will the afternoon bring I wonder.

MMORPG Boredom

So... We went back to World of Warcraft after the expansion release. We ooohhed and aahhhed at all the new stuff. Lots of pretty zones, lots of new quests and lots and lots of gaming politics - and I'm not even raiding.

Now we are level 70 and the zones are all merging into one again. Yeah, gaining flight form was dead cool, but oh look "Collect 12 wolf tails (and the drop rate is 0.001%)", "Kill 25 of mob X", "You need to be revered with faction blah blah to get this item/dungeon access so grind grind grind!"

Not to mention the usual Raid/PVP or Die choice at max level.

Is it wrong to want more than this? I managed to play Everquest for 5 years, so why are the newer games not keeping that interest? Has everything really got so formulaic?

Maybe I can no longer give a fuck about the seriousness that people play. How 'their' character should be the centre of the known universe, or how particular guilds feel that they are more important than others because they are raiding top-dungeons or 24/7 'roleplay' (read - cyborz in the Stockades... We know who you are). The PVP leet kiddie whiners going "Why can't I one shot character class X any more.. my class is bbrroookkennn /tantrum" resulting in endless nerf patches in a doomed attempt to class balance between pvp and pve - an impossible task.

Dammit we deserve better!

Maybe... Lord of the Rings Online.

We await our pre-order.
